WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT FEMDESIGNER ?
There are several FE programs on the market but they are designed for
specialists, require very powerful computers, are incredibly expensive to buy
and difficult to use. FEMdesigner is different. It has been designed from the
ground up to be compact and easy to use, and it works on even the humblest PC
under MS Windows, the worlds most popular operating environment. But more
important than that .... The release of FEMdesigner for Windows, represents a
significant price breakthrough for a FE program and brings the capability of FE
analysis to all engineers: Beginner or expert. However, despite its low cost,
FEMdesigner has a very high specification and can perform all of the analyses
that most engineers want.
FEMdesigner also has many important innovations and advantages over existing
FE software, including:
- The NEW IGES IMPORT add-on is the best in the world at producing a mesh from a solid model (from Catia, Pro-engineer, SolidWorks etc.). There is no need to buy any other CAD repair software.
- The NEW CONTACT ANALYSIS automatically calculates the appropriate interaction stiffness for least iterations, so there is no need to guess a stiffness like in other FE software.
- Full dynamic memory allocation means there is no upper limit on model size and
the program grabs only the computer memory which is required to solve the
problem, unlike FORTRAN based programs.
- Super-compact in design, the program itself takes up very little memory so most small & medium-sized models can be solved speedily
in RAM without accessing the hard disk. FEMdesigner is 300 times smaller than some FE software, though it provides the same functionality.
- Only essential information is stored and all the rest is recalculated when
required. This is much faster than continuously accessing the hard disk.
- The node renumbering algorithm is the most efficient available for minimal model storage space.
- Models can be stored as short text files, whereas the current trend for FE
programs is for enormous interactive databases to be set up, leading to disk
space problems.
- During plasticity and transient analysis, only the final results are
stored on disk (unless otherwise directed) so there is no danger of ever
running out of disk space - the iterations and load steps will always continue
to the maximum required.
- Iterations/load steps are interruptable so the user can stop, look at the
results, save them and restart again (if desired) at the same point.
- Full graphical capability is included for building and viewing the model and results,
unlike many FE programs where you need to link up to a separate graphics
program.
- Pre and postprocessing are integral and so don't require a database - the
model data can be kept in RAM, even for huge models.
- Rotating a 3D model is very easy with the virtual trackball activated by the right mouse button.
- Zooming-in is always available by simply dragging and clicking the mouse
over the model on screen.
- The 3D hidden line and perspective displays are very fast.
